Tate grew up in a preacher’s home, and therefore was surrounded by Christian examples. He knew at a young age that he didn’t want to go to hell when he died and therefore knew he needed to ask Jesus in his heart and save him. At the age of around five, they were finishing Sunday lunch and his mom was cleaning up the kitchen. That is when he asked if she could show him how to be saved. She took Tate up to her bedroom and showed him several verses in the Bible why we need to be saved, and there by her bed, he knelt and with childlike faith prayed to ask Jesus to forgive him of his sins and come into his heart and save him. Shortly after his salvation, he followed in believer’s baptism.

In 1990, at the age of ten, his father became pastor of Grace Baptist in Middletown. That is where the Lord allowed him to meet his future wife. They met at the age of ten, but at the age of 17 he began to date her and they were married a couple years after high school. The Lord has now blessed them with three beautiful boys; Braxton, age 4; Braydon, age 3; Brodie, age 1 ½, and in February they will be expecting their first daughter, Brylie.

In 2005, they were asked to pray about helping in the Youth Department. Tate and Leah were currently teaching the 2nd hour 3rd graders, so they were unsure as to what to do, so they prayed. Shortly after, they both felt the Lord wanted them to help in the youth. After finding teachers to take over their class, they became actively involved with the youth. It has been such a blessing to both of them. They both pray God will use them in a mighty way to help influence the futures of the young people here at Grace Baptist.
